Sara & Ethan
APRIL 21, 2007; CLOSE MEMORIAL PARK, UNIVERSITY PLAZA HOTEL
Viewers of KY3 will recognize Ethan Forhetz as the handsome weeknight anchor and Sara Sheffield as a spunky morning news reporter. On April 21, 2007, after a 10-month engagement, Ethan and Sara said their vows before God, friends, family and onlookers in the Hosta Garden at Close Memorial Park.
How did the couple choose the location for their nuptials? One day, while cycling on the South Creek Greenway Trail near Nathaneal Greene Park, the couple saw the garden and knew it was the perfect place for their special day.
Sara, a native of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, did an internship at KYTV while attending Oklahoma State University. When a permanent position opened two and a half years ago, she left a station in Sherman, Texas to come back. Six months after Sara returned to Springfield, Ethan (a native of Collinsville, Illinois) arrived at the station. At the station, Ethan and Sara work opposite schedules, but they love spending their weekends together.
Both committed Christians who describe themselves as “picky,” they quickly felt a connection. “It took less than two months to ask her out,” Ethan says. “After our second date, I thought, ‘I’m going to marry him!’” laughs Sara.
The couple got engaged in Eureka Springs after dating for eight months. Ethan followed in his dad’s footsteps by using Psalms 34:3 to propose. He also presented Sara with a beautiful emerald-cut engagement ring in a vintage setting that he designed himself. “It’s my first piece of real jewelry,” Sara says.
After the Close Memorial Park wedding, the reception was held at the University Plaza Hotel. Because it was also Sara’s birthday, they had a wedding cake, a groom’s cake, and an OSU-themed birthday cake.
Ethan also presented Sara with a mountain bike. Their honeymoon was in Aruba, where they snorkeled, jet skied, took a Jeep tour of the island and went to The Natural Pool.
